1) What is the cost of a cup of coffee in a ordinary Lisbon cafe (not the five star hotel cafes)?
2) Is 8 Euro for buffet breakfast (cooked egg, hams, cereals, juice, etc) in the hotel a good bargain? Or is it better to get breakfast in a roadside cafe(coffee plus bread or pastry)?

Hi Olivia,

for 8 euros you can eat a full meal for lunch!!! With coffee and dessert and beverage!
It's too much to pay for breakfast!!! I think...
Breakfast in any local cafe, will cost about 3 €(coffee plus bread or pastry) or less. This is average cost for Lisbon and large cities or turistic areas...it can be less expensive other places....

it kind of depends in which café you'll go to.
but it goes from 0.55 cents to 2€.

now, about breakfast, i have no idea of how it is in hotels, but in cafés it's actually quite cheap, it won't pass 5€ if i'm not mistaken... but it really depends in which café you enter.
if you go to Brasileira (a well-known café in Lisbon, Baixa/Chiado) you'll pay a lot, because it's where Fernando Pessoa (famous writer/poet) used to drink. there's even a statue of him there!

now, about transportation: you can use the subway (metro), you'll have this green ticket, which you can use for the rest of your trip. 1 ticket is 0.85 cents.
you can always ask for help to the guys who are there :)

now, you must go to:
+ Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (in Belém)
and you must eat Pasteis de Nata in Belém too, i don't really know how to translate it, but it's pastry, and it's really good.

+ The Oceanarium (in Oriente, you can go there by subway)

and now, several places you have to check: Bairro Alto (they have a lot of bars there, at night, and it's the best place to hang out), Parque Eduardo Sétimo (Park Edward 7), Restauradores, Expo 98 (in Oriente as well), Largo do Camões, Baixa (lots of stores), Chiado, Padrão dos Descobrimentos (in Belém), Avenida da República, and Campo Pequeno.

can't think of anything else right now,
hope this was helpful.

Hi Olivia,

You can pay for a beakfast between 3 or 8 euros, depends the place you go.

You can visit Cascais, its near Lisbon and you can catch the train in Lisbon (Cais do Sodré)the price is about 2,60 euros.

Cascais is where i live, is a small village, then go to the Guincho and then Sintra...

So Enjoy your trip and have fun

The cost of a cup of coffee in any of the many cafés in Lisbon is about 60 "cêntimos"; you can eat a good breakfast in one of those cafés for less than 8 euros.

When I was there last month, you could get a cup of coffee for € 2. Buffet breakfast at a hotel for € 8 is reasonable and that normally includes coffee. If the cost of your hotel does not include breakfast, then the decision on whether to still eat there or at a cafe outside really depends on how much you want to eat.

HI!
IN A REGULAR CAFÉ, A COFFEE IS ABOUT 60 CENTIMOS. BUT IT DEPENDS WHERE YOU GO... 8 EUROS FOR A BREAKFAST IN THE HOTEL IS GOOD BUT YOU CAN TAKE YOUR BREAKFAST IN CAFÉ FOR ABOUT 4/5 EUROS PER PERSON AND IT'S A REAL GOOD BEAKFAST. HAVE A NICE STAY!

I suggest to visit in Lisbon, Portugal: downtown Lisbon - Chiado, Castelo de São Jorge; Belém (you must eat "pastéis de Belém"!, Parque das Nações; and outside Lisbon (not far): Sintra (beautiful!)Cascais, Guincho, Cabo da Roca. This is just a rough idea of what you can visit in my city. Hope you have a wonderful time. You can eat in any of Lisbon's cafés or restaurants for a small amount and with lots of variety and quality. ;O) Rita

hi

it's better for you have breakfast in a roadside cafe, and the price is about 4 euros (in the most of them).

in downtown of lisbon you can appreciate the unique construcion that characterize lisbon, you can walk near Tejo river, and get in toucht with a diverse of lifestyles. the view of lisbon from S.jorge castle is lovely, you must go there.

near "Torre de Belem" and "Mosteiro dos Jeronimos" you can enjoy a peaceful walk, and can eat the great "pastel de belem"

if you are looking to have fun and take a drink, i advice you to go to "docas" in Alcantra, near of lisboa (you can take the train); and "bairro alto" (center of lisboa).

you can easily move in lisbon with the subway, the price of the ticket it's about 0,7 euros.

Enjoy your trip, i wope you like our calm and 'warm' country
